Christian Atheist

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

The mind of the believer is under attack, being distorted from the Truth. Lately we preach a Gospel we ourselves daily trade for the life the world offers. We speak of life eternal with the eye fixed on death. We hustle to be blessed and are proud to promote hard labour that pays the way to, what we call, success. Continually regurgitating our Christian Atheism all over our own pride, crucifying Christ all over. In full view of the world itself, we shamelessly grind our way to the top deeming the Lord Master of none. And when we get there we ascribe the praise to Him. Tired, bruised and burned out. Deceived and foolish children!

We were born in to a world that continually longs for our communion. Desiring that we partake of its ways, subjecting us to share in its bogus rotation. It advances rapidly while slinging us in its currents, dragging us with the flow of things. Time itself advocating that we keep up and evolve into the new age child of God. It demands our participation and threatens us with the promise of prosperity, status and wellness. Ultimately, it wages against true Life and leaves us ambivalent.

We justify our tireless gym sessions with health excuses forgetting 1 Timothy 4:8. We modify His temple with piercings and ink leaving behind 1 Corinthians 3:17. We dedicate our time and effort to labouring at our dreams of entrepreneurial recognition, conveniently dismissing Psalms 52:7, Proverbs 11:28, Ecclesiastes 6:2 and Luke 18:25…to mention but a few. We point the finger at sinners and highlight their shortfall within God’s kingdom, profusely emphasizing on their trespassing God’s Law while we ourselves cannot keep the Law and too need continual salvation in Christ. Fallen from Grace we toil for a life worthwhile, simultaneously broadcasting that Jesus is our King. Yet He rules none of our choices.

He, being seated on High, similarly bids our gathering at His table. A gut wrenching nodus to Him, He continues to knock on the hearts of His own people. If only we could hear His voice today. Relentlessly He pursues our passion for Him.

But then there are a few who choose Mary’s part…to sit at His feet and listen. To rest and allow the gates of Grace to be opened. Mercy rushes over us, submerged in Grace’s glory, we dwell in peace. Life lives for us as He leads the way. From the inside out He became my embrace, lighting up the path ahead. I don’t work to be successful, I don’t grind for glory. I live exposed to Love while in the shade of Calvary’s cross. My soul knows no failure and my future flourishes without my effort. I concur with David that “surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”. I look back and see that I didn’t work for what I have today. All that I have, all that I am is of Him, through Him and to Him.

We need obedience to the faith in the begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ. Not obedience to what we think are good works to obtain life. The first and great commandment remains ever true; Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
